5 Ways to Show Employee Appreciation

Author: Katie Forsha

In case you didn’t know, March 4th is National Employee Appreciation Day!

Of all of the holidays to celebrate in the office, this is a fun one! Bonus points for it being a Friday too!

If you are looking for ways to celebrate the people that make your business so special, check out these simple ideas based on feedback from our own staff at SSE.

1. Send a gift card

We surveyed our staff on their favorite ways to feel appreciated, and gift cards were one of the most common responses. It seems like a no-brainer, but this is a great way to encourage people to treat themselves – especially if they are to a specific location that makes it more personalized to the staff, rather than a generic Visa card.

2. Schedule a team outing

We know everyone has hectic schedules in their own lives, but carving out some time to enjoy being with the team outside the workplace is a great way to connect. If you’re worried about attendance/scheduling conflicts, consider giving staff an hour off at the end of the day to head to a team happy hour.

3. Take time off

This was by far the most popular answer from our staff for their favorite ways to be appreciated. Whether it’s an hour, half day or full day off, it’s rewarding to have a break to recharge during this busy season.

4. Do something special

This is a vague answer, but there are many ways to send physical gifts to your staff as a thank you for their hard work. Of course price points vary, so if you’re looking for something inexpensive, a hand-written card with a personal message can be a meaningful gift. If you have more of a budget, sending a physical gift is always a fun way to say thank you. BoxFox and snappy.com offer great options!

5. When in doubt, bring food

If you will be in the office on Friday, bringing in donuts or catering a lunch is always a crowd pleaser! If you have a virtual crew, sending an e-giftcard for some coffee in the morning or actually sending food via a delivery app is a fun twist to make people feel included!

Bonus: You could turn it into a virtual team lunch with a fun game to play while eating
