Resiliency is the word that comes to mind to describe 2023 so far.
The definition of resilience is “the capacity to withstand or recover quickly from difficulties.”
Recently, we have all been bombarded with concerning information regarding the economy. Depending on which economist you listen to, we’re either already in a recession or will be by the end of 2023. Yet, despite increased numbers of layoffs, unemployment remains at record low levels and there are still more jobs than active job seekers.
All this noise in the market can very easily distract and derail the work we do, but not our team. I am amazed by their focus, determination, and resiliency every day. We held our mid-year State of the Company meeting this July and it was very energizing. We celebrated many significant accomplishments including exceeding budget for the first half of the year by 4.5%, billing two of our highest paid direct hires on record, honoring 34 assignment employees hired temp-to-perm by our clients, and celebrating our 49th year in business to name just a few. The team left the room full of excitement about the second half of the year. Their commitment to overcome all the economic ‘noise’ and make 2023 a great year by focusing on how we impact people’s lives every day was invigorating.
It was such a wonderful reminder for me how important it is to be resilient. Do not let the negative ‘noise’ creep into your head and distract you. Focus on the positive rather than the negative and the fear of the unknown. This is going to be my mantra for the second half of 2023.
