Temps Plus to SSE: Innovation, Growth & The Rise of The Internet in The 1990s

Amidst SSE’s growth, the ’90s were a kaleidoscope of pop culture, global events, and evolving fashion. The decade welcomed the rise of grunge music, hip-hop, and the explosion of the internet. President Bill Clinton led the nation through a period of economic prosperity, and iconic fashion trends like flannel shirts and high-waisted jeans dominated runways. Diving into the vibrant decade of the 90s, we uncover a period of innovation, growth, and the rise of internet recruiting for Staffing Solutions Enterprises (SSE).

Rebranding and Expansion:

In 1995, SSE underwent a strategic rebranding, transitioning from our former identity as Temps Plus to Staffing Solutions Enterprises. This rebrand was not merely a change in our name, but a reflection of our expansion to offering comprehensive staffing solutions and adapting to the evolving needs of its clients.

Leadership and Core Team Members:

In 1992, SueAnn Naso joined SSE as our West District Manager. Her dedication and leadership skills quickly propelled her to the position of Vice President and Regional Director of NE Ohio Brand Operations in December 1997. This marked a pivotal moment in SSE’s leadership, setting the tone for the company’s future success. Throughout the 1990’s, SSE also benefitted greatly from the expertise of new team members who played integral roles in driving our company’s growth and evolution for the next few decades to come. Kathleen Bodnar, our current Controller, joining in 1993, and Lazette Prince, our current StaffMatrix Workforce Manager, joining in 1991, have both been integral to SSE’s success.

Service Diversification and Innovation:

In the 1990s, we expanded our recruiting services, broadening our services beyond just temporary staffing offerings seen in the two decades prior. In the mid-90s, we launched direct hire services, allowing us to facilitate permanent placements for clients seeking top talent for permanent, higher-level positions. This new service provided clients with access to a new pool of talent and allowed SSE to strengthen its relationships with both candidates and employers. Additionally, we began offering payrolling services, providing clients with a streamlined solution for managing payroll administration.

JPC Computer Learning Center and Career Board:

In 1995, we partnered with JPC Computer Learning Center, providing job seekers with essential computer skills training to succeed in an increasingly digital workforce. This initiative empowered individuals with the knowledge and tools needed to excel in their careers, reflecting our commitment to equipping our candidates with the skills demanded by modern workplaces.

In 1997, we launched the Career Board, revolutionizing the job search process by digitally connecting candidates with employment opportunities and streamlining recruitment for employers. This innovative platform provided a user-friendly interface for job seekers to explore job listings and apply for positions, while also offering employers a convenient and efficient way to manage their hiring needs.

The expansion of SSE’s recruiting services, coupled with the introduction of the JPC Computer Learning Center and the Career Board, represented a significant advancement for the company during the 1990s. These initiatives highlighted our commitment to innovation in service delivery, building our reputation as both a versatile and comprehensive staffing firm.

The 1990’s were a period of immense growth, innovation, and adaptation, as SSE expanded its services, embraced emerging technologies, and solidified our position as a leader in the staffing industry.
